MALLIG, ISABELA – To enhance the local economy in the town of Mallig, the Local Government Unit (LGU) has invested its FY 2023 Financial Assistance to Local Government Units (FALGU) in the creation of a multi-purpose building intended to serve as the new vegetable section and trading center in the town’s public market compound.
The 574.6 sqm multi-purpose building was inaugurated on May 30, 2024, at the Public Market Compound. Officials and personnel from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), led by Isabela Provincial Director Corazon D. Toribio, and representatives from the Regional Project Development and Management Unit (RPDMU) attended the ceremonial inauguration of the FY 2023 FALGU and the groundbreaking of the FY 2023 Seal of Good Local Governance Incentive Fund (SGLGIF). The events were facilitated by LGU Mallig, led by Mayor Jose Philip Calderon, with the support of other local elected officials and LGU functionaries, and assistance from MLGOO Alma M. Grande. Representative Atty. Allan U. Ty of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketer’s Association (LPGMA) Partylist graced the event as a special guest.
PD Toribio praised the LGU for the effective and excellent implementation of the project for the benefit of Mallig’s constituents, as evidenced by its completion. She also emphasized in her message the importance of incorporating infrastructure projects into the Annual Investment Plan (AIP) of LGUs to ease the implementation of such projects once they receive funding from the National Government. Additionally, she urged them to be proactive and practice good governance in all aspects, particularly in good financial housekeeping. PD Toribio also acknowledged the efforts of LPGMA Rep. Ty for facilitating the provision of the FY 2023 FALGU for LGU Mallig.
“It is heartwarming to witness the significant developments in the public market of our town,” expressed Mayor Calderon. He recalled the appearance of the old public market and expressed hope that the newly improved market will entice locals and residents from neighboring towns to patronize the Mallig Public Market.
Municipal Administrator Jose Calderon thanked and acknowledged everyone involved in completing the project while also urging stall owners to maintain the cleanliness of the new vegetable section so that fellow residents will patronize and support the public market.
The LGU intends to use its SGLGIF for the construction of a food park, which will be located at the Public Market Compound.
