The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region 2 successfully held the second batch of its Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QAQC) Training Workshop for Local Roads at Seed Hotel, Buntun on November 19-22, 2024.
This four-day workshop is part of the department’s continuous efforts to empower local government units (LGUs) by enhancing the technical capabilities of their licensed civil engineers in delivering quality road infrastructure projects.
The training workshop brought together participants from LGUs across the region: 11 from Cagayan, 10 from Isabela, 2 from Nueva Vizcaya, and 1 from Batanes. Through this program, the DILG were able to equip engineers of the LGUs with the knowledge and tools needed to ensure that road projects meet national standards and are implemented efficiently and sustainably.
Resource persons from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH): Engr. Jayson B. Tacazon, Engr. Jeffrey T. Babaran, Engr. Abelardo D. Camayang, Jr, and Mr. Effren M. Abiqui, lent their expertise during the training, providing a comprehensive discussion of QAQC standards, techniques, and methodologies. Topics included materials testing, project monitoring, and the proper documentation of road infrastructure projects, all of which are critical to maintaining the integrity and longevity of local roads.
A highlight of the training was a hands-on material testing simulation. Participants had the opportunity to conduct tests on specific gravity, loose and rodded unit weight, and compressive strength of concrete cylinder samples. This practical experience allowed them to apply the theoretical knowledge gained during the six sessions.
The same activity was conducted in August this year which catered select LGUs across the region.
