TUGUEGARAO CITY, CAGAYAN – October 11, 2023, in support for a peaceful, orderly, and safe Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE), DILG R2 led by Regional Director Agnes A. De Leon joined the Unity Walk, Interfaith Rally and Covenant Signing, early Wednesday, at the Saint Peter and Paul Cathedral.
Facilitated by the Philippine National Police Regional Office 2 (PRO 2) and Cagayan Provincial Police Office, the unity walk took off with two (2) groups from separate locations, the Cagayan Sports Complex and Tuguegarao City Roundabout Junction, before proceeding to the Cathedral grounds.
Further along, a short program was conducted where all agencies, particularly the PNP, AFP, COMELEC, DILG and DepEd and representatives from different religious sectors pledged and signed their commitment in doing their part and in ensuring a peaceful election as well as condemning illegal and other lawless acts when the polls open on October 30, 2023.

PBGen Christopher Birung affirmed the commitment of the PNP in intensifying the efforts of the organization to implement institutionalized mechanisms for election-related peace and order operations and shall remain apolitical and non-partisan to uphold successful election. “Our dedication to maintaining the rule of law and safeguarding the safety of candidates, voters and election officials is unwavering,” he said.
Meanwhile, RD Agnes De Leon affirms the support of the Department to the initiatives of the PNP and COMELEC during the BSKE. She also recognized that the election as the greatest expression of democracy, the people are once again given the choice to choose among the candidates who will govern their communities. She also challenged all candidates to present themselves ready to serve the people and prove themselves worthy of the mandates of an elected barangay official.

Representatives from the DILG Cagayan Provincial Office headed by Engr. Maria Loida M. Urmatam also attended the unity walk and covenant signing while members and employees of various organizations, DILG attached agencies, as well as candidates from the candidates from the neighboring municipalities of Iguig, Enrile, Solana and Peñablanca, Cagayan composed the bulk of the participants during the activity.
