
UNIVERSITY OF ST. LOUIS TUGUEGARAO – following the successful launching of Project #TIWALA in identified schools in the City of Tuguegarao last year, DILG R2 holds the last leg of the series at the University of Saint Louis Tuguegarao Main Campus on January 30, 2024.
The forum is conducted in two simultaneous batches to accommodate all target students and is facilitated by the Department in partnership with the Department of Health-Cagayan Valley Center for Health Development (DOH-CVCHD), Commission on Population and Development (CPD), and the school’s management.
Dr. Luisa B. Aquino, Executive Assistant to the University President, expressed her sincerest gratitude to the DILG and its partner agencies for this initiative that will curb the rising teenage pregnancy by providing an informative and interactive platform to its students.

Meanwhile, DILG Asst. Regional Director Elpidio A. Durwin emphasized the importance of addressing the issue while remaining committed to implementing programs and activities to reduce the cases in the region.
“The DILG believes that this requires a concerted effort from all stakeholders. Hence, with the commitment of all involved in the implementation of plans, it can make a lasting positive impact on the lives of the youth in Cagayan Valley,” he said.
The forum was attended by more than 500 students from Grades 9 to 10, and it featured data on teen pregnancy in the region, discussed by representatives from the Commission of Population Development, Ms. Shiarlaine C. Donato and Ms. Diana Rose Manangan.
Other relevant topics such as fertility awareness and the effects of teen pregnancy and Interventions on Sexual and Reproductive Health of Adolescents in Region 02 were discussed by Dr. Anabelle S. Sanchez, Dr. Melani L. Perez and Ms. Jennifer Panaligan of the DOH and CPD, respectively.
The Project #TIWALA: Teenage Pregnancy Interventions Focusing on the Welfare, Awareness and Developing Life Skills and Appropriate Behaviors, is a collaborative project among the concerned NGAs and LRIs through the initiative of the Local Government Capability Development Division (LGCDD) of DILG R2.
