LUNA, ISABELA – Responding to the imperative need for Luna General Comprehensive High School’s (LGCHS) covered area for extracurricular activities and programs, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Luna, Isabela utilized its FY 2022 Seal of Good Local Governance Incentive Fund (SGLG-IF) to construct a 20-meter by 30-meter school gymnasium.

The school gymnasium was officially inaugurated on February 23, 2024, at Brgy. Mambabanga, Luna, Isabela. The event was graced by Isabela Provincial Director Corazon D. Toribio, who represented Regional Director Agnes A. De Leon of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region 2. Joining her were Cluster Head Karla Bernadette Aldea-Rollan and personnel from the Regional and Provincial Project Development and Management Unit (PDMU). Mayor Adrian Leandro P. Tio, along with members of the Sangguniang Bayan, and the faculty and students of LGCHS, led by Principal Felicidad D. Zacarias, also attended the momentous occasion.

PD Toribio expressed that she was over the moon upon learning that LGU Luna allocated funds for the benefit of LGCHS students, acknowledging that the funds could have been used for other municipal projects. She commended the LGU for securing a PhP 100M Local Government Support Fund - Financial Assistance to Local Government Units (LGSF-FALGU), an impressive feat for a fifth-class municipality. Addressing LGCHS learners, she encouraged them to persevere despite the challenges of their generation, emphasizing the potential to become responsible citizens, teachers, professionals, or elective officials of Luna and the Province of Isabela.

Mayor Tio, in his speech, recounted Principal Zacarias’ persistence that led to the utilization of the grant for the school. He acknowledged the challenges students faced conducting activities under the extreme heat of the sun or during the rainy season. He expressed gratitude to the Sangguniang Bayan for their invaluable support in bringing the project to completion. With the successful completion of the gymnasium, students can now participate in activities comfortably, he emphasized.

MLGOO Leah R. Alindayu outlined the purpose behind constructing the gymnasium, emphasizing that students now have the convenience of holding their graduation ceremonies within the school premises, shielding them from exposure to extreme weather conditions.

Principal Zacarias, visibly moved, expressed gratitude on behalf of the school for the completed project, providing LGCHS with a dedicated space for various activities.
The completion of the gymnasium is set to benefit a total of 14,524 individuals, marking a significant improvement in facilities for LGCHS students and the community.
